What can the List View Manager customize per user?

Personal list views are stored per res.users . The module extends ir.ui.view with fields *user_id*, *is_custom*, *active_fields*, *is_custom_view_one2many* and *custom_view_one2many_field_id*. How does the manager opt a tree view into the advanced logic?
